The Heat are looking to extend their 12 game winning streak to 13 with an upcoming game against the Brooklyn Nets. They head out to New York to play at the Barclays Center on Friday at 7:30 p.m. where the two teams will finish out their season series. The Heat won the first two games. Their last meeting was on January 30 at American Airlines Arena. The Heat won 104-96 with  Goran Dragic leading the team with 20 points. For the Nets, Bojan Bogdanovic was the top scorer with 16 points.

“Brooklyn was very much in both games up until the final minutes, because they play with a similar competitive streak to what we’ve come to expect from the HEAT.” – Couper Moorhead *

Fun Facts

  • The last time the Heat were on a winning streak was during the 2012-13 season when they won 27 straight. This is the third longest streak in the NBA.
  • Over the past 12 games, the Heat and the Golden State Warriors have been tied for the best defense in the NBA.*

Injuries and external factors

On February 8, Dion Waiters sprained his left ankle in the Heat’s 115-113 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Waiters was ruled out for their game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 8 two days after the injury. The Heat are looking to have Waiters playing again by this week’s matchup against the Nets, but are preparing for his absence.

“The HEAT will just need to keep everyone involved if Waiters is out once again. That likely means more ball handling responsibilities for Tyler Johnson, James Johnson and even McGruder. While you’d obviously want to see Waiters in the lineup, it’s a good opportunity for T. Johnson and McGruder to improve their playmaking skills.” – Joe Beguiristain *
